Evolutionary Computation for Expensive Optimization: A Survey

Abstract Expensive optimization problem (EOP) widely exists in various significant real-world applications. However, EOP requires expensive or even unaffordable costs for evaluating candidate solutions, which is the algorithm to find a satisfactory solution. Moreover, due fast-growing application demands economy and society, such as emergence of smart cities, internet things, big data era, solving more efficiently has become increasingly essential fields, poses great challenges on problem-solving ability approach EOP. Among approaches, evolutionary computation (EC) promising global tool used past decades. Given fruitful advancements EC EOP, it review these order synthesize give previous research experiences references aid development relevant fields Motivated by this, this paper aims provide comprehensive survey show why how can solve efficiently. For aim, firstly analyzes total cost Then, based analysis, three directions are pointed out approximation substitution, design enhancement, parallel distributed computation.
